St Kilda Apartment
St Kilda Apartment
What do you do when your clients request a second living area in their first floor apartment but need to stay within the external walls of the property and not modify anything structurally?
The answer came in the form of an underutilised open balcony above a car port which we replaced with a cabin-like building accessed from the kitchen. This new retreat is a light-filled, dynamic space that serves different purposes throughout the day.
A new bathroom, kitchen and bedroom all share a minimal yet luxurious palette that respects the original characteristics of the grandiose Victorian building.
The use of Elba marble in the bathroom and sunroom, matte tan porcelain in the kitchen, profiled wall lines, sophisticated upholstery and spotted gum timber bring a richness to the interiors.
We also converted the second bedroom into a study/dining room. Custom steel sliding screens can be open or closed depending whether a private study or a larger open plan kitchen and dining space is needed.
